Surveys American literature, analyzing works by writers from North, Central, and South America and the Caribbean, from prior to the European Contact through the modern period. Recommended: Completion of WR 121Z Composition I or equivalent.

Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
Describe how Native American and Latin American literature, short fiction, oral tradition, and poetry drawn from pre-Columbian, colonial, and contemporary writers explore the human condition. Interpret Native American and Latin American literature through critical reading, writing, and discussion. Analyze narrative and poetic techniques and themes unique to Native American and Latin American literature. Participate in activities that encourage personal awareness, growth, and/or creativity through the experience of Native American and Latin American literature. Write and speak effectively about ones' own and others' ideas.
