NUR 103A Care Throughout the Lifespan
The third course in the lecture series. Focuses on patients who are experiencing physical and psychological changes as they relate to mental health, neurology, pediatrics, perinatal and newborn nursery settings, cardiopulmonary disorders, oncology and immunological disorders. Explores the nursing roles of provider of care, teacher, and member of a profession. Prepares students to apply theory to NUR 103B Nursing Practice Throughout the Lifespan. Required: Admission to the Nursing program.

Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
Management of Care: Demonstrate critical thinking and problem-solving skills as a framework for the nursing process. Safety and Infection Control: Identify proper methods to protect clients and healthcare personnel from health and environmental hazards. Health Promotion and Maintenance: Identify health promotion and disease prevention strategies throughout the lifespan. Psychosocial Integrity: Demonstrate professional and therapeutic relationships with peers and colleagues, establish rapport with clients and families. Basic Care and Comfort: Provide and direct client care, across the lifespan, using pathophysiological and behavioral science concepts. Pharmacological and Parenteral Therapies: Demonstrate and apply critical thinking skills when evaluating client conditions and related pharmacological therapies.
Reduction of Risk Potential: Compare and contrast normal findings, abnormal findings and changes in the client condition across the lifespan. Physiological Adaptation: Prioritize client problems and plan appropriate nursing interventions to meet client needs. Professional Engagement: Utilize evidence-based research to develop a professional paper in APA format.
