APR 122 Fund of Electricity & Electron

This class is designed for apprentices working/studying to become Limited Energy Technicians, but is open to anyone desiring an introduction to Electricity and Electronics. Topics for this term include: Basic DC and AC Circuit analysis, Semiconductors, ICs and Digital Logic, Switching Devices, and Blueprint Reading. Using a DMM to safely test voltage, current and resistance will be emphasized. The National Electrical Code (NEC) as it relates to effective and safe implementation of low-voltage circuits will be introduced.

Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
Identify and describe the function of a variety of electrical electronic devices used in the trades. Recognize and draw simple series and parallel electrical schematic diagrams. Calculate electrical circuit quantities associated with series and parallel electrical circuits. Construct simple series and parallel electrical circuits. Predict how electrical circuits parameters will change when components are found to be defective. Use a digital multimeter DMM to measure, test and troubleshoot simple series and parallel circuits.
