APR 102 AC Components and Uses

Introduces students to the practical application of resistors, capacitors, inductors and transformers to AC electrical circuits. AC resonant circuits, including RL, RC, and RLC will be studied in both series and parallel configurations. The components involved with the distribution of AC power as well as lighting, heating and wiring applications will be covered. Students will learn troubleshooting skills and proper use of test equipment as they apply to AC circuits.

Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
Mathematically size electrical components and wire for safe operation in complex parallel and series AC circuits. Correct for abnormal factors in AC circuits. Apply proper grounding and bonding techniques to insure circuits and or plant areas have the highest possible level of safety. To calculate the proper type and size of lighting to illuminate a given area from a given height. Effective troubleshooting techniques of electrical circuits.
