NUR 103B Nursing Practice Throughout the Lifespan

The third course in the lab series. Applies theory from the didactic portion of the curriculum to the nursing practice experiences in skills lab, simulation and direct client care in a variety of settings. Builds on continued safe application of skills and principles from the previous terms while integrating lifespan issues. Skills of managing client care, prioritizing time, and integrating clinical judgment are applied in nursing practice experiences. Required: Admission to Nursing program.

Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
Perform thorough, timely and accurate physical assessments based on client's condition; interpret and document findings and discuss coordination of care with primary healthcare providers. Develop a nursing care plan with three priority nursing diagnoses that are developmentally, culturally and age-appropriate, while engaging in the care of two clients with increasing complexity. Demonstrate improved time management in the care of two clients. Demonstrate safe and effective administration of IV fluids/medications with supervision; independently and safely administer oral medications. Reflect on mental health care and the environment, the roles and responsibilities of the team members, processes, procedures and treatments and identify appropriate psychosocial nursing interventions for clients with alterations in mental health.
