MTH 265 Introduction to Series

A series calculus course for students majoring in engineering and the sciences. Topics include convergence and divergence of numerical series, power series and their analytic properties, Taylor series expansion and Taylor polynomials. Prerequisite: MTH 252 or equivalent with a grade of C or better.

Prerequisite

MTH 252 Integral Calculus with a grade of C or better.

Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
Appropriately choose and apply standard convergence tests for series. Determine the radius and interval of convergence for a power series. Use power series to perform mathematical calculations including term-by-term differentiation and integration. Approximate functions using Taylor polynomials or partial sums of infinite series.
