G 202 Physical Geology II

Introduces physical geology and fundamental geologic principles. Includes topics such as surface processes related to mass wasting, erosion, streams, groundwater, coasts, deserts, glaciers and climate. Laboratory component highlights use of topographic maps and imagery. Suitable for science and non-science majors. Geology courses do not need to be taken in sequence.

Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
Use maps and imagery to identify common fluvial, glacial, and eolian landforms. Identify types of mass movements and weathering, and relate these processes to each other. Identify components of the hydrologic cycle and analyze how they impact water resources. Describe the climate system; explain how it has changed in the past; and evaluate how humans are impacting the climate system in the present day. Use observations and data to evaluate geologic hazards and their impacts to society related to mass wasting, sea-level rise, and flooding.
