PE 270 Sport Psychology

Introduces mental, physical, social and psychological aspects of athletic performance and the significance of sport as it relates to culture, socialization, character development, personality, race, gender, economics, and mass media. Required: Ability to read and write at the college level. Critical thinking skills and problem solving strongly desired.

Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
Define and outline a personal sports philosophy. Describe and differentiate between past and present perspectives of sports. Research primary motivations in sports including gender differences, sportsmanship, and commercialization. Recognize and describe health issues related with sports including drug use and violence. Outline the importance of leadership in sports.
