BI 211 Principles of Biology
One of three introductory courses intended for science majors: biochemistry, botany, zoology, forestry, microbiology, fisheries and wildlife, agriculture, pre-medical, pre-dental, pre-veterinary, pre-pharmacy, biology, etc. A survey of biodiversity: the major groups of organisms, their classificiation, and their evolutionary relationships. Biology 211, 212 and 213 need not be taken in numerical order. This course includes a laboratory component.
Prerequisite
Prerequisite (or concurrent): CH 112 Chemistry for Health Occupations or CH 150 Preparatory Chemistry or CH 121 College Chemistry (only offered at OSU) or CH 221 General Chemistry. This course includes a laboratory component. All Prerequisite must be completed with a grade of C or better.

Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
Interpret phylogenetic models correctly. Demonstrate competency using dichotomous keys to identify unknown organisms. Categorize organisms into their appropriate taxonomic levels based on hallmark traits. Explain the relevancy of biodiversity to humanity by citing specific examples of interactions of other organisms with humans.
