AT 163 Schooling the Horse I

Provides hands-on horse training experience. The student learns the fundamentals of horse training, including longeing, working in the round pen, driving, bitting, riding, rein aids, lateral work, and basic train techniques. Equipment, safety and horse psychology also are taught.

Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
Introduce lateral movement to the inexperienced horse. Establish correct transitions in the inexperienced horse. Develop collection and extension in the inexperienced horse. Handle the horse safely on the ground in a variety of scripted and unscripted situations. Relate progress of the inexperienced horse to the horse owner.
