AT 155 Equine Diseases and Parasites

Covers the nature of equine diseases and parasites including common infectious and noninfectious diseases, diagnosis, treatment and prevention. Modern drugs and medications, immunology and basic microbiology are also included. Also covers common unsoundnesses of the foot and leg.

Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
Recall basic cellular biology and mammalian immunity and immune system dynamics. Classify disease causing organisms in the horse, diagnose, and theoretically treat disease. Outline equine husbandry practices that will prevent disease outbreak. Examine a specific equine disease in depth using peer-reviewed, scientific literature.
