SPN 214 Spanish for Heritage Speakers I

Part of a three-course sequence designed specifically for the needs of Spanish heritage speakers. The main goal is to improve their reading, writing, grammar and speaking skills, while deepending their understanding and appreciation of Hispanic cultures in the world and within the United States. All classroom interaction occurs in Spanish.

Required: Spanish native speaker or heritage speaker (grew up speaking Spanish at home).

Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
Differentiate between colloquial and standard language. Increase their vocabulary and knowledge of their languages. Become more skilled at presenting their ideas through the written and spoken word. Have a better understanding and an appreciation of their cultural heritage and linguistic background through the study of literary works. Read actively and think critically.
