HDFS 209 Practicum: Community Agencies

(7 class hrs/wk, 3 cr) Alternate years Designed to provide students with practical experience in an agency or organization that serves children, youth, families and/or the elderly. Students participate in a weekly seminar and spend six hours per week working in a community agency.

Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
Become familiar with range of community services. Prepare practicum application materials, letter of interest, resume, application forms. Participate in an interview. Participate in 60 66 clock hours at the practicum site. Design and follow learning objectives. Work with agency supervisor to develop a meaningful plan of work. Participate in regular assessments of performance. Participate in a weekly seminar with other practicum students. Engage in ongoing reflection and self assessment. Read and discuss materials relevant to practicum site.
