PSG 211A Sleep Technology Monitoring Equipment

Teaches the basics of the technology used in the monitoring of sleep. Covers the principles of biopotential recordings, digital data acquisitions and signal processing. Includes equipment calibrations and troubleshooting, filter settings, use of amplifiers and the basics of pulse oximetry and capnography.

Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
  1. Demonstrate basic principles of biopotential recording and digital data acquisition.
  2. Record montage design for polysomnography.
  3. Demonstrate the importance of pulse oximetry and capnography in polysomnography.
  4. Recognize and correct recording artifacts.
  5. Select appropriate polysomnography equipment.
  6. Explain the purpose and procedures for performing machine calibrations and biocalibrations.
  7. Identify the key requirements for obtaining a quality study including montage selection, system referencing and work space design.
