BI 234 Microbiology
Introduces all microbial life, with emphasis on bacterial forms. Covers cell structure, metabolism, genetics, growth, and control of growth. Investigates host-pathogen relationships that lead to disease and health. Covers basic microscope and culture procedures and investigates the occurrence and behavior of microorganisms in our environment.
Prerequisite
BI 231 Human Anatomy & Physiology with a grade of C or better.

Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
Distinguish between microorganisms and their characteristics. Relate how metabolism and genetics contribute to the diversity of microorganisms. Perform fundamental techniques used in a microbiology laboratory safely and effectively. Describe the important role of microorganisms in ecosystems. Explain the dynamics of infectious diseases at the individual and population levels.
