CS 227H Systems Support: Hardware

A survey of current hardware designs, components, and uses of Personal Computers (PC's), other endpoint devices, and peripherals. Emphasizes troubleshooting, problem solving, and hardware support. Assists students in preparing for the CompTIA A+ certification.

Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
Identify the core components of a PC and explain their role (Motherboard, Chip Set, CPU, RAM, BIOS, HDD, Power Supply and Operating System). Identify the core components of a CPU, the different types of RAM, the function of BIOS and the differences between PATA and SATA HDD interfaces. Describe network and printer technologies, install a printer on a Windows PC and recognize and fix basic printer problems. Install, configure, secure and administer Windows Operating System and implement a troubleshooting methodology.
