Familiarizes students with all aspects of reproductive management of the horse. Reproductive physiology, estrus cycles, breeding management, mare and foal care, stallion handling and recordkeeping are covered.

Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
Identify and describe functions of male and female reproductive anatomy. Develop an estrus synchronization program for horses. Calculate the immediate use and cooled and shipped dosages for a stallion ejaculate. Employ effective semen handling techniques for proper insemination. Summarize the stages of labor and parturition, and explain optimal neonatal experiences.
