Prepares the individual for safe, challenging and enjoyable wilderness trips. Emphasizes physical conditioning, equipment, clothing, food, safety and the use of map and compass.

Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
Student will be able to read topographical map and plot a compass course. Student will be able to describe packing procedures for an extended wilderness trip. Student will be able to demonstrate basic wilderness first aid. Student will be able to describe three essential safety concepts for backpacking. Student will be able to participate in a moderately stressful backpacking experience.
