G 202 Physical Geology II

A study of the Earth, fundamental geologic principles, and physical processes acting within and upon the Earth. Topics focus on surficial processes related to mass wasting, erosion, streams, groundwater, coasts, deserts, glaciers and climate. Laboratory component highlights use of topographic maps and imagery. Field trips highlight topics. Geology courses do not need to be taken in sequence.

Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
Utilize geologic concepts to evaluate practical questions of daily importance and those with longer tern consequences related to the Earth. Make observations to infer the formation of common Earth materials and landforms. Work effectively as a team using the scientific method to investigate and solve geologic problems. Make and record scientific observations and measurements using safe lab techniques. Think critically, perform calculations, interpret graphs, analyze results, and discuss and make final conclusions regarding geology in the classroom, the field, and real life.
