This course prepares Medical Assistant students to perform CLIA-waived tests in a physician's office laboratory using quality control and practicing safety precautions.

Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
Perform capillary puncture. Perform quality control measures. Perform hematology testing. Perform chemistry testing. Perform urinalysis. Perform immunology testing. Screen test results. Analyze charts, graphs, and or tables in the interpretation of healthcare results. Distinguish between normal and abnormal test results. List major types of infectious agents. Compare different methods of controlling the growth of different microorganisms. Discuss quality control issues related to handling microbiological specimens. Identify diseases processes that are indications for CLIA waived test. Standard Precautions Transmission based precautions. Identify the role of the Center for Disease Control CDC regulations in healthcare settings. Obtain specimens for microbiological testing. Perform CLIA waived microbiology testing. Display sensitivity to patient rights and feeling in collecting specimens. Explain the rationale for performance of a procedure to the patient. Show awareness if perceptions related to the procedure being performed.
