CJ 110 Intro to Law Enforcement
Introduces students to the law enforcement profession. The historical development of policing in America, the police role, and the various branches and divisions of law enforcement are examined, as well as corruption and stress. The social dimensions of policing in America are examined so students will understand the hazards inherent in the profession.

Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
Describe the development and evolution of law enforcement in the United States. Identify unethical behavior in a law enforcement context and describe the forces contributing to police corruption. Describe the physical and emotional hazards associated with police work. Describe the physical and educational requirements for becoming a police officer and the criteria for advancement. Describe the bureaucratic features of the traditional police agency. Describe the potential legal liability associated with excessive force complaints and other civil rights violations. Describe and understand the unique challenges faced by women working in law enforcement. Apply analytical skills to social phenomena in order to understand human behavior. Apply knowledge and experience to foster personal growth and better appreciate the diverse social world in which we live.
