AU3. 317 Electrical Sys & Engine Performance
In this class you learn electrical, ignition and compression systems theory along with the use of electronic diagnostic equipment. You will learn to verify proper engine operation and emission controls and to service the starting, charging and secondary ignition systems.
Prerequisite
Prerequisites: Placement Test scores for
ALS 100 Applied Learning Strategies, and
WR 095 College Writing Fundamentals or higher and placement into
MTH 060 Introduction to Algebra. Recommended: Valid driver's license, proof of vehicle insurance, clean driving record as outlined at www.linnbenton.edu/auto/drive_record.html

Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
Use wiring diagrams and the digital multimeter to diagnose electrical circuits. Inspect and repair vehicle wiring, connectors and circuit protection devices. Service and diagnose vehicle batteries, starting and charging systems. Verify mechanical integrity for an internal combustion engine. Understand ignition theory and service secondary ignition components. Inspect, service air filters and fuel filters. Inspect, service intake. Exhaust and crankcase ventilation system. Inspect, service lighting and driver warning systems. Use a scan tool to retrieve diagnostic trouble codes and organize datastream parameters. Verify repairs using On Board Diagnostic monitors.
