AT 143 Intro to Horse Management

Presents facility and herd management techniques in detail. Gives special focus to operating a green equine facility. Students learn alternative training methods and are given tools to assess those methods.

Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
Students will understand basic farrier science, and be able to communicate effectively with a professional farrier to discuss individual horse needs. Students will understand how ingrained equine behavior may affect training and management techniques. Student will learn the theory of basic training skills to effectively utilize ingrained behavior to maximize interactions with horses. Students will be introduced to the theory of effectively managing a facility, including manure, equipment, pasture and arena management, and client communication.
