PFW 267 Pipe Welding Practices II

Second course in a four-course series. Provides additional practice time to further develop and refine pipe welding skills in the 2G, 5G, and 6G positions with shielded metal arc welding (SMAW), gas metal arc (GMAW), and flux core arc welding. Covers cutting pipe and weld joint preparation, fitting, and welding pipe of various joint types per configurations and welding positions encountered in the pipe welding trades. Emphasizes the importance of good fit-up. Includes technical lectures in related subjects.

Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
Utilize safe work habits. Demonstrate the ability to prepare and fit-up pipe weld joints properly on carbon steel pipe. Recognize the effects of the application of heat to pipe weld joint configurations. Employ pipe welding methods and techniques applicable to carbon steel plate and carbon steel pipe. Select appropriate welding filler metal(s) for welding carbon steel pipe. Demonstrate the ability to correctly use layout skills, tools, equipment, techniques and methodologies used in the pipe welding trades for welding carbon steel plate open-root and carbon steel pipe.
