MTH 020 Basic Mathematics

Provides a thorough review of arithmetic, including fundamental operations with whole numbers, fractions, decimals, percentages, geometry and measurement. Emphasizes use of formulas and the order of operations. Note: A minimum competency level is required to pass this course.

Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
Perform the four basic mathematical operations on whole numbers, fractions, and decimals to obtain exact answers both with and without a calculator. Model and solve problems using the four basic mathematical operations. Demonstrate understanding and knowledge of fractions and perform calculations involving fractions. Demonstrate understanding and knowledge of the use of units including labeling measurements, applying units to solutions, and converting units by using dimensional analysis. Interpret and use percentages in a variety of problems such as utilizing graphs, utilizing formulas and solving applications.
